Shotbox privacy policy
Last updated: 1 October 2026
Shotbox is a screenshot organizer for Android. The short version: everything stays on your phone.
What Shotbox accesses
Your photos (screenshots only). With your permission, Shotbox reads the images in your phone's screenshot folders, and images you choose to save into it from the Share menu (stored in Pictures/Shotbox). It needs this to show, sort, search and clean up your screenshots.
What Shotbox does on your phone
- Reads the text in your screenshots using on-device text recognition (Google ML Kit, bundled in the app), so you can search them and get box suggestions.
- Computes a small image fingerprint of each screenshot to find duplicates.
- Stores your boxes, starred screenshots, the extracted text and the fingerprints in the app's private storage on your phone.
None of this leaves your phone.
What Shotbox does not do
- It does not collect, upload, sell or share any personal data, screenshots or text.
- It has no account, no analytics, no ads and no tracking.
- It cannot connect to the internet: the app does not have the internet permission.
Deleting data
- Screenshots you delete in Shotbox go to Android's trash, where you can restore them for 30 days.
- Uninstalling Shotbox removes everything it stored (boxes, extracted text, fingerprints). Your screenshots stay in your gallery.
Children
Shotbox is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
